About SNAP Work Requirements

SNAP Work Requirements helps people who get SNAP, and the caseworkers and volunteers who help them, understand the SNAP work requirement and 3-month time limit after the 2025 federal law changes (H.R. 1, Public Law 119-21).

When the law changed, the official information was spread across federal memos, state policy manuals and county flyers, and each state started on a different date. This site puts it in one place, in plain language. It offers a free work requirement checker, a time limit calculator, and a page for every state and Washington, D.C.

Where our information comes from

We rely on the law itself (Public Law 119-21, Section 10102), federal regulations (7 CFR 273.7 and 273.24), USDA Food and Nutrition Service memos and waiver lists, and official state SNAP agency websites, policy manuals and notices. We use news reports and community flyers only to find leads, and we check them against official sources. Where a state has not published something, or its pages could not be checked, we say so instead of guessing. State facts were last checked on October 30, 2026.

What we are not

We are not a government agency, a law firm, or a SNAP office. We cannot see your case, change your benefits or give legal advice. For a decision about your benefits, contact your state SNAP agency. For help with an appeal, contact your local legal aid office or call 211.

How we keep this accurate

Every rule on this site is taken from primary sources — federal statute, agency guidance, and official state publications — and each page lists the sources it relies on. When a rule changes, we update the affected pages and the "Updated" date at the top of each page.

Our calculators run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to us or stored.

Independence

SNAP Work Requirements is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any federal or state government agency. We are an independent educational resource.
